I’ve recently been very into discovering new fashion designers from countries other than the typical: Paris, Milan, New York or London. So I started reading about a Ukrainian fashion designer, Sergey Ermakov, who has recently showed a move towards international markets. What sets this particular designer apart from most fashion designers is his vision or, in his case, his lack of vision. Ermakov was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy at age 11 and lost 95 percent of his eyesight. But it didn’t stop him from pursuing his dream of becoming a talented and successful tailor. And he has clearly met his aims.

The 38-year old Ukrainian fashion designer is today one of the hottest names of Ukrainian fashion. Ermakov is the number one creator of Ukrainian
haute couture, whereby he designs exquisite works of art with unbelievable details of beading, feathers, lace and sequins. And he does all of it with an eyesight of a mere 5%. The more I was reading and discovering about Sergey Ermakov, the more respect I started to have for him as a designer. Many other fashion designers started to quickly pail next to the visually impaired fashion genius.
