Do you still remember those Barbour and oilskin jackets? I used to have one when I was young, and oh how I remember feeling embarrassed to wear it. And since those days oilskin has been but a distant memory. Until recently, when I’ve actually come to understand the real practicality of this brilliant garment.
Alexa Chung in her Barbour jacket. Picture taken in 2008, but it might as well be yesterday. This look still works.
I have to admit, it’s not easy finding a good quality, waterproof jacket, that would not only do its job, but also look stylish. Barbour jackets look great. But as it’s slightly tricky to get one, as they are sold in limited stores and concessions, I thought that I’d scavenge the Internet in an attempt to find some cool Autumn jackets to satisfy my desire to get an authentic Barbour jacket.
I think the best jacket for the coming season is either a Barbour or an oilskin jacket or as a last resort, a raincoat. A waterproof jacket is the perfect cover for the Autumn rains. And having a waterproof jacket means that you don’t need to worry about getting wet on those days of heavy rain. But then again, with stylish jackets like these, there’s no need to wait for heavy rain to wear one. Why not just wear one on a regular Autumn day?
As a substitute for an authentic Barbour jacket, why not go for a canvas jacket from Rag & Bone's Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear Collection.
Oilskin jackets as well as Barbour jackets, which are actually pretty hard to come-by, are incredibly practical and they never fail to look classy and stylish. Simply style one up with a pair of boots and a cool scarf and I guarantee, you’ll look great. And with styles like those of Rag & Bone to choose from, I’m definitely getting one of my own. If not an actual Barbour jacket, at least a close substitute. I think it’s worth it, if it means staying dry (and looking good).
Do you know any good designers that have included oilskin or barbour-style jackets in their collections? Tell us about it. Share your knowledge with the rest of us.

No need to mention that Barbour is one of the best, why find a substitute ? ( Junya watanabe has one like the Bedale for about 800 pounds ). If you like the look..Personally, I think it’s better to just go for the Barbour unless you can’t afford them, but if you can, go for the real deal ( think about it …it has been around since 1894, what else can we say ?)

I’m impressed, I need to say. Actually rarely do I encounter a blog that’s each educative and entertaining, and let me let you know, you could have hit the nail on the head. Your thought is outstanding; the problem is something that not sufficient persons are speaking intelligently about. I am very comfortable that I stumbled across this in my seek for something referring to this.
This is exactly what I like about this site: it is the dovetailing intellectual thoughts with fashion/style topics. It gives meaning to what we think and do daily with pretty important aesthetic matters.
I thought I would leave my first comment.
Nice post. I’d desire to use some of the content material on my weblog if you don’t mind. Thanks for sharing.
