I know it feels somehow strange to be thinking about next year’s trends, but you might just be surprised by the things that you see on the catwalk (good and bad). So I think you should definitely give it a chance, at least to be able to come to some sort of opinion about the whole idea of future trends. These shows are designed to give you some pointers as to what you can expect to see on the high-street next year. Don’t feel pressured to run to the shops in order to attain a specific look that you’ve seen on the catwalk, especially if it’s not even meant for this year. Next seasons’ collections simply aim to give you a sense of up-and-coming trends. Full stop.
So as I was going through many of the looks and styles provided by designers at the Berlin Fashion Week 2010, I came across a label that really made a mark on me. Mongrels in Common is a fashion label run by designer duo Livia Ximénez-Carrillo and Christine Pluess, who are based in Berlin-Mitte, Germany. With the help of the multinational backgrounds of the two designers, the talented duo is creating interesting, stylish and incredibly wearable clothes. Without any kind of exaggeration, I could see myself wearing almost all of the pieces in their collections, particularly the items in their latest, Spring/Summer 2011, collection which was showcased in Berlin just last month.
As I was going through the latest collection, I could not help but wait for next year to come, so that I can get my hands on some of these styles. Their S/S 2011 collection is a beautiful mix of colours and fabrics, which they’ve combined in clever ways. The cropped jackets are extremely feminine and so beautifully tailored, and the mix of a jacket with loose pants just creates a very chic silhoutte. Without a doubt, the more I was seeing from the collection, the more I felt how this collection is so me. I’m totally loving it, and here’s a brand that I’m definitely bookmarking as one of my new, top favourites. And even though I am a believer in the power of now and I try to live in the moment the best I can, I’m already waiting to see what the duo will come up for Fall/Winter 2011.
As I was having a hard time finding images from their S/S 2011 collection, I thought to share some catwalk footage from Berlin Fashion Week 2010. That way you’ll have a clearer picture of what I’m talking about. Hope you enjoy.
