If we think about comfortable clothes, what’s the first things that comes to your mind? I would probably say anything loose and practical, and what feels good on the skin. But then when I look at my wardrobe, why does so little correspond to my idea of comfort? All I see are clothes which are, let’s say, on the tighter side, clothes made out of fabrics that tend to often feel uncomfortable, and clothes that aren’t particularly practical, to be honest. So if I’m so easily able to say what I find comfortable, why do I continue to be so hard on myself and wear clothes, which I don’t find that comfortable to begin with? It’s actually pretty interesting, isn’t it?
Another interesting aspect would be to think that in order to keep up with the pace of fashion, you’d have to be one that spends all their time reading up on current and future trends, shopping and changing your style with every season’s collection aiming to cut it as high-fashion. And if I then look at today’s fashion, I’m not seeing that many things that would echo to me “comfort” or “practicality”. I would argue the exact opposite. Mostly all I see is crazy outfits that try to fit into a setting that’s a fabrication made up by the world we live in.
So, do I think such a thing exists as “comfortable fashion”? No, I don’t think so. As that would have to mean that A: I fully accept and welcome fashion in my life, and B: I would find today’s fashion comfortable, literally. I’m not convinced of either. What do you think?
