The Transformation of The Bean Boot Over a Century

The Tommy Hilfiger bean boot

I’ve never really been that fascinated by Tommy Hilfiger’s designs, but when I saw their take on the original L.L. Bean bean boot, I curiously changed my mind about the brand.

In 1912, Leon Leonwood Bean founded his company L.L. Bean with just one product, a hunting boot. The company had a very simple motto: 100% money back guarantee. And so Bean’s patented boot came to be known as the one and only “duck boot”.

How the bean boot has transformed

The main purpose  of the boot was to keep hunters feeling comfortable and dry while allowing to them to keep to their task at hand, i.e. hunting.

Bean’s original design has survived over a century with little or no change in the design, but come 2010, the duck boot has seen quite a significant transformation from a  traditional, American utility boot into a high fashion boot.

To find out more about bean boots, check out either the original L.L. Bean version, or see some of the more contemporary versions, like the ones from Tommy Hilfiger.
